As we gear up for this amazing event, I’ll be bringing you author interviews so you can get to know the attending authors in more detail! There are lots and lots of authors for you to discover, not to mention, hundreds if not thousands of books! Why not grab a cuppa and sit back and relax! All while hearing more about our writers and their writing lives, inspirations – and maybe even a secret or two!
What is the first thing people should know about you?
I always wear mismatched socks.
Tell me which genre or trope you are most well-known for writing.
Fantasy romance with sapphic characters.
Are you one of those authors for whom music is EVERYTHING and without it you’d never write?
I loooove music and putting on the right track (on repeat) can really help me get in the zone but I’d still write if there was only silence.
Is your desk/writing space tidy or messy?
Tidy (at the moment) but only through great continuous effort. All my mess is on the shelf next to me so I’m not sure it counts.
Who or what inspires you as a writer?
People and their passions. I get inspired watching people do something they love and try to put some of that sparkle in every character I write.
Are you an introvert or extrovert? Or something else…?
Introvert. I love nothing more than being at home.
The literary world moves fast, but what’s the one thing that never changes?
Good books make people feel.
What is your advice to authors just starting out?
I would say to soak up as much information as you can without letting it paralyse you. Do as many things as you can handle and constantly try to improve on what you do. It’s not going to be perfect in the beginning and it really doesn’t have to be.
Where is your favourite place to go on holiday?
I haven’t been on a holiday in so long and I’d probably take work with me so anywhere really.
Your favourite place to read and/or write?
My desk for writing, my bed for reading.
When you’re as old as Gandalf the Grey, how many books do you think you might have written?
Infinity. I intend to tell stories my entire life.
What did you always want to be when you were growing up?
A writer, apparently! My mum told me recently that I used to say that I wanted to be an author and I even wrote little stories. Combined with wanting to be my own boss, I think I’ve found the perfect job.
If writing is your full-time job, have you ever been told to get a “proper job”?
I didn’t really tell people what I was doing until I got things up and running but the people around me were all very supportive and wished me luck.
Who is your biggest cheerleader?
My partner. She believes in me and my books when I lose faith and reminds me why I’m doing this when I spiral. I can count on her for everything.
BONUS QUESTION: Tell me a secret about one of your books that nobody else knows yet!
Sometimes my dog Fudgestick accidentally adds nonsensical words to my drafts when I’m cuddling him at my desk. He’s a secret co-author!
