As we gear up for this amazing event, I’ll be bringing you author interviews so you can get to know the attending authors in more detail! There are lots and lots of authors for you to discover, not to mention, hundreds if not thousands of books! Why not grab a cuppa and sit back and relax! All while hearing more about our writers and their writing lives, inspirations – and maybe even a secret or two!
What is the first thing people should know about you?
I had my own Harley Davidson until January this year when I sold it. I was a proper biker chick in a real MC.
Tell me which genre or trope you are most well-known for writing.
Dark Psychological Thrillers.
What is one thing people don’t know about you?
Probably being a biker chick and in an MC, haha.
Name a book you’ve written that you wish more people had read, and why.
The Pain They Feel if you like really dark gritty, or The Best Day of My Life if you like single dad stories.
What is your favourite book (not your own), and why?
Slammed by Colleen Hoover. I read it way back years ago, and I just loved it. It’s a YA book but there was just something about it. It’s always stayed with me. There are many more, but that one always springs to mind and I also loved Thoughtless by SC Stephens.
Was there a book you wrote that broke you and made you feel like you’d never write again?
Ha ha, no. None have broken me, but with each book I feel I won’t write again. It’s the Imposter Syndrome, I just feel like I’m not good enough and would love more people to read them.
Are you one of those authors for whom music is EVERYTHING and without it you’d never write?
No. Music is everything to me, but I don’t have it on when I write. I like silence. When I have music on I like to sing (not that I can sing) and so it distracts me. I love music, I have a wide taste, I just recently went to see Billie Eilish for the second time. I love her music. My hero is David Bowie, I saw him at a few concerts. Prince was another idol of mine and I saw him a few times also. Then every time Linkin Park were on, I had to see them and also Muse, it goes on and on.
Is your desk/writing space tidy or messy?
My work desk is messy, but my writing desk is tidy.
Who or what inspires you as a writer?
I just love putting my words down. I’m not the best at punctuation or telling and showing, but I love doing it.
Are you an introvert or extrovert? Or something else…?
A bit of both really. I like my space and not have to talk, but then I like to meet people and talk.
What is your advice to authors just starting out?
Stick with it. It’s hard, really hard. There is so much to learn, and it does cost money to put a book out. If you can do it, then go for it. If it’s something you really aspire to and not just think it’s about making money (a lot of authors don’t make anything at all after costs) then do it, you will feel so proud of yourself for it.
Where is your favourite place to go on holiday?
It’s been Florida for the last 30+ years and I had a house there, but I have just sold it. Now all I want to do is cruise. I think I’m getting more afraid of flying the older I get. I want to explore the world on a ship. That’s my goal for a few years from now when my hubby retires. I can write anywhere as long as I have my laptop.
If you could live inside any fictional world, where would that be?
Twilight. I would love to be amongst Vampires and Werewolves.
Your favourite place to read and/or write?
Read, which I don’t do much of anymore, was always in my bedroom. I started writing in my bedroom also but now I have a temporary writing office as I am due to move house in October/November and I will have a proper office set up then.
When you’re as old as Gandalf the Grey, how many books do you think you might have written?
I have done 7 full-length books currently, writing my 8th. 1 Novella and about 4 anthology stories. I hope to reach about 20 full-length in the next few years.
Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met?
I’ve seen a lot but not actually met. I bumped into David Coulthard the F1 racing driver once, literally bumped into his chest in Harrods, I wasn’t looking where I was going. I’ve seen a few famous people like Michael J Fox in New York but never actually met him.
What did you always want to be when you were growing up?
An HGV driver. Ha ha, I never wanted to work in an office. Guess where I ended up? Yep, in an office and I don’t like it.
If writing is your full-time job, have you ever been told to get a “proper job”?
I have my own financial business and writing is done in my spare time as that takes up a lot of my time.
Who is your biggest cheerleader?
My hubby and family.
